The Ladies hockey team kicked off their campaign against Europe’s elite in Turkey as they compete in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup.

The hometown heroes defeated HC Rotweiss Wettingen 2-1 in the first game of five in the group stages.

Buckingham have been selected as the representative of England after competing in the Indoor Premier League for the last four years, having won the competition in 2020.

The English representatives will look to continue their fine form in Antalya, where they come up against Belgian heavyweights, Royal Racing Club Bruxelles, later today.

It will be no mean feat to pull off a victory against the imposing Belgian side, who romped home to a 6-0 victory against Railway Union HC, the side representing Ireland.

The Swiss side, defeated by the travelling locals, currently sit atop the domestic Swiss Premier League and the foreign side, captained by Tami Trosch will be hoping to make amends in their second game against Dusseldorfer HC, the reigning German champions.

Prior to the European tournament they embarked on a fundraising campaign in order to ease the financial stress of playing, unpaid, in such a long tournament. It seems as though it was thoroughly worthwhile.
